CARAVAN INSURANCE
WHAT IS CARAVAN INSURANCE?
Caravan insurance is designed for touring caravans (tourers) and static caravans. This type of insurance covers the cost of repairing or replacing your van if it is stolen or damaged.
Caravan insurance covers a range of risks including theft of the caravan, or its contents; accidental damage; accidental damaged whilst being towed (for touring caravans); fire damage; flood damage and storm damage.
Caravan insurance can often be purchased with ‘new for old’ cover. This can cost more but means that if your caravan had to written off and replaced, you would receive a brand new caravan, to the nearest possible specification as your current caravan.
Or, you can insure your caravan for ‘market value’ which means that your insurer will take into account the age condition and specification of your caravan.
WHY DO I NEED CARAVAN INSURANCE?
There is no legal requirement to have caravan insurance, but it’s important to bear in mind that many thousands of caravans are stolen each year. Caravans often represent a significant investment by their owners, and it’s important to think about the cost of repair or replacement in the event of an incident. Caravan insurance enables you to protect yourself against this cost.
It’s also important to cover yourself for the risk of accidental damage, perhaps while your caravan is stationary or on the move.
There are a number of hazards faced when towing a caravan including hitting gateposts or outbuildings with your van. There is also the risk of hitting something whilst reversing your caravan.
