BUSINESS CAR INSURANCE
WHAT IS BUSINESS CAR INSURANCE?
Business car insurance is the cover you need if you use your car for work purposes. Whilst a standard car insurance policy will give you cover for social use and commuting, (going to your permanent place of work), it will not give you cover for wider work-related travel.
It is important to recognise whether you need business car insurance. For many people, their work circumstances can gradually change, to the point where they are – unwittingly – using their personal car for business purposes.
Business car insurance relates to the use of your personal car on company business. If you have a company car, then this will probably be insured for business use by your company, though it is always worth checking this.
WHY DO I NEED BUSINESS CAR INSURANCE?
If you use your car as part of your job, you will need business car insurance.
Whilst business use does not include commuting to and returning from your normal place of work, it does include commuting to various other places for work purposes, for example to meet clients.
It also involves driving clients or colleagues around; using your car for work-related tasks, like driving to a training event; or making deliveries and collections on behalf of your business.
If you are unlucky enough to have an accident while using your car for work purposes and you do not have business car insurance, you will not be able to make a claim. You could also be committing an offence.
